Movie Quotes Hangman isn’t going to win any prizes when it comes to its looks. It’s downright basic to look at. Underneath that simple black and white surface however is an addictive game ideal for movie buffs. It’s the traditional pen and paper game of Hangman but with a movie based theme. Every round involves a quote from a well known film.
The story behind it all is that the player must save Querentin Tentarino from being hanged by the executioner. Enter the wrong letter or number and the executioner gets one step closer to pulling the lever that condemns Tentarino to his death. Players get seven wrong guesses before it’s game over. Each game consists of 50 rounds in all, each offering a different quotation. With 600 different quotes available, there’s a reasonable amount to do here before quotes begin to repeat themselves.
As a big film buff, I found it relatively easy to work my way through the 50 stages. I didn’t even need to use all three of the joker cards available that offer a new quote if used. Relative ease isn’t to the detriment of the fun though as it was quite enjoyable to figure out the answers. Certainly much more so than just guessing words as is usually the way with Hangman games. The movies are varied, including classics such as Casablanca but also including recent hits such as The Social Network.
My only reservation is that Movie Quotes Hangman is going to need regular updates to keep interesting. With the current supply of quotes, it won’t take players that long to exhaust their options. Updates every few weeks, providing new questions, could be just what’s needed to keep the game fresh. A series of theme packs could provide similar results also. As it stands though and at its low price, Movie Quotes Hangman is still worth playing for the film buff. Just don’t expect it to last forever.
