If you’d rather move the pipes instead of flapping a bird, Move the Walls is the game for you.

After seeing the official trailer the other day, I presumed that BeaverTap’s Move the Walls was basically the inverse of games like Flappy Bird. Meaning that instead of guiding a bird/plane/chibi Cthulhu between gaps in obstacles, you have to move the obstacles out of the way.

I think I pretty much called it.

The entirety of Move the Walls is swiping left or right to shift the gaps in an endless stream of obstructions so that they line up with the center of the screen and your balloon, boat, triangle, or whatever can pass through safely. You can only swipe once per row, however, so if you mess up and block yourself there’s nothing you can do. You’re equally as doomed if you don’t react fast enough.

Every so often you’ll be able to pass through a few gates that provide you with coins, and the more coins you manage to hoard the more levels you can unlock. Well, I say “levels” but they’re really more like themes or skins. A little visual variety certainly isn’t a bad thing, but don’t expect any big changes to the game itself.

The music (courtesy of Pivvot, Polymer, and soon to be Piloteer’s Whitaker Trebella) is suitably unsuitable in the way it’s almost too exciting for what you’re actually doing - and I mean that in a good way. I also appreciate that each level begins with a couple of easily obtainable coins, so even if you’re not particularly good you can still unlock more stuff if you keep at it.

As something a little different, Move the Walls is a decently fun distraction. It’s not complicated or super-involving, but it doesn’t really need to be.
