Loot Hero is a light action/role-playing game in which players adventure through several levels to slay a dragon. To build enough skills to defeat this monster, they must level up by defeating lesser foes and upgrading their skills at an inn. The whole experience sounds very rote until it is revealed that the core game experience can be completed in 30 minutes or less, making Loot Hero oddly feel both like a poor value proposition and a breath of fresh air.

Playing Loot Hero couldn't be simpler. Players control a knight and direct him in one of two directions by tapping and holding the corresponding side of the screen. From there the game kind of takes care of itself; having the knight run, attack, and collect loot while on the move. This is quite convenient since the game can move pretty quickly, but also a bit of a bummer because much of the experience feels like Loot Hero is playing itself.

As players advance through a level they inevitably come across an inn at which they can trade their collected loot for upgraded skills. In this sense, the loot in the game is purely currency rather than gear that can be equipped, which again, takes some thinking out of the equation of playing Loot Hero. Combining these features with really short levels (there's 5, and there's an achievement for beating a level in less than 15 seconds) make the whole experience seem somewhat mindless, but sometimes that's exactly what players want from a mobile title.

To make things a little more robust, the difficulty of Loot Hero scales once players have cleared the game, making each subsequent run through the game more difficult, and there are also achievements built in to keep players running through the game multiple times. However, I personally had my fill of Loot Hero after 2-3 playthroughs, which can clock in at a little over an hour.

As a mindless distraction with some RPG elements, Loot Hero is a bit of an interesting game but its overall gameplay just didn't grab me for very long and the increase in difficulty just didn't add enough variety to keep the game feeling compelling. Despite a somewhat intriguing concept, Loot Hero is ultimately a bit of a disappointment.
