In a way, quitting smoking and keeping up with a fitness plan are very similar beasts. I’d almost go as far as saying that kicking the cigarette habit is probably about as mentally strenuous as getting off the couch and driving to your nearest gym. The similarities go on and on — gym membership cost/cigarette cost, smoking enjoyment/food enjoyment, etc.
Like most fitness apps in the App Store, LIVESTRONG MyQuit Coach tracks your progress one day at a time while adding a bit of motivation along the way to keep you going. After entering in all your info (age, how many smoked per day, how soon you want to quit, etc.), you are presented with a screen that has two very prominent buttons, “I Smoked” and “Having a Craving.” Obviously, hitting the “I Smoked” button adds to your daily allowance of cigarettes, but hitting the “Having A Craving” button flashes you a random tip on how to squash the urge.
As you go along on your journey to stop smoking, you can look at your history charts, how you did per month, your achievements (think Foursquare badges), and you have full access to the LIVESTRONG.com community. The community works like an AA buddy, allowing for you and others to say, out loud to the world, that you are strong enough to quit. Being a part of a fairly popular site, the community is quite large and is active enough to always keep you motivated.
Hopefully, with the help of the LIVESTRONG MyQuit coach you will be able to stop your smoking addiction in its tracks. You’ll be able to go to bars and restaurants without feeling oppressed, you’ll save hundreds of dollars in cigarette costs, and most importantly, your chances of cancer will go way, way down. If that’s not worth it, I don’t know what is.
