The frenzy that comes from trying to collect coins that also will harm the player gives the game a unique dynamic that’s rather different from other endless games out there. It’s a welcome change. The soundtrack to Jump Dewds is an interesting choice: it’s heavily trumpet-based, so it sounds like an extremely upbeat Mafia movie. It can get a bit grating after a while, though. The tilt controls work well, though the wall jumping can be a bit finnicky with trying to hug the wall, especially given the game’s quick pace.
The online multiplayer brings a new spin to the game: now 2 players are fighting over coin collection, and with the playfield slowly disintegrating, it becoes a battle over the high-value coins, and to try and control the few elevated platforms remaining. Latency is practically a non-issue. Plus, the winner gets double coins, so it’s profitable as well!Jump Dewds is free to play, and it thankfully uses just the one currency, handing it out regularly in-game and through the completion of objectives. Some character unlocks and powerup upgrades may take a while, though it’s really just a matter of playing the game enough to unlock them. Or buying coins to get them quicker.
Jump Dewds is a thankful reminder that it’s possible to do an endless style game that can do some fresh things. This is definitely worth the free download for fans of endless games.
