Immediately it's clear that ItalyGuides: Rome Travel Guide is really quite beautiful to look at. Everything about it has been enhanced to HD quality to remind you that the $5 you spent went a long way. Travel books are brilliant for helping you around new cities but you can't beat actually being able to hear descriptions or see the sights you're planning on visiting.

ItalyGuides: Rome Travel Guide first of all offers you a specific route in which to sightsee. Obviously you don't have to take the route it suggests but it's been geared towards seeing all the main sights without travelling any further than you have to. It would have been nice if some form of GPS tracking could have adjusted the route depending on where you were located but despite this, it's a very well presented app. Covering all manners of famous sights such as The Colosseum to the Trevi Fountain and St. Peter's Basilica, there's a lot of beauty to take in. Once you click on a destination, you're then taken to even more descriptions of everything you could possibly need to know, where relevant. Tapping on St. Peter's Basilica for example then offers up an array of other things to read or listen such as information about the Vatican Grottoes or The Pieta by Michelangelo. Most of the descriptions are provided as audio tours of around 5-10 minutes long, while other shorter pieces are in text form only. Each of these descriptions are told in an interesting manner although fast readers might find themselves choosing to read the tour rather than hear it.

You can check each place to visit either via the map interface so that you know where everything is located or via an alphabetical list which is very convenient. A travel tips section is also provided although some of the advice isn't quite as helpful as it would like to be, and the inability to view it in any way other than via a video is a bit of a nuisance.

Despite these small flaws though, ItalyGuides: Rome Travel Guide is clearly an impressive app for those travelling to the beautiful city of Rome. It's clearly not an app that you'd use often but its attractive presentation and well thought out guides makes it a must buy if you do plan on sightseeing.
