Healthy Desserts offers quite a delicious selection of ideas and recipes for desserts that can be made for those following a vegan, gluten free or raw diet. Plus, for the cynics, it reminds them that there are some very tasty treats that can be conjured up, even when maintaining healthiness. It does lack some essential features but it's sure to keep those with a sweet tooth happy.
Its layout is consistently attractive. Loading up the app presents users with a screen full of thumbnails, representing each recipe. One's eyes play an important role in tempting one into such treats, and all the photos available do a great job of capitalizing on this. Tap on a thumbnail and a brief description becomes available, along with an ingredients list and step by step instructions. The description also offers details on whether something is gluten free, ideal for vegans or for those following a natural sweeteners or raw diet. Unfortunately, there's no way to filter out results, so, for instance, gluten intolerant people are restricted to browsing through ideas that they might not be able to pursue. There's also no nutritional information to be seen, which is a strange oversight for an app so focused on being healthy.
Healthy Desserts covers all the other familiar bases, such as offering conversions in metric or US, being able to add recipes to a favorites list as well as share it with others. It's also very attractive to explore and is great inspiration. It's just a shame that it misses out a few quite obvious sections. Still, it's great to see an app so focused on dessert recipes that are indulgent yet healthy. It covers a much under explored area of baking.
