Looking for a new puzzle game? Frenzic might be just what you are looking for. With fast paced puzzle solving action, great worldwide leaderboards, and endless gameplay, it's a great example of what good casual gaming can be on the iPhone.
Frenzic for the iPhone was originally launched as a web based demo last year. Since then the developers, The Icon Factory, have been rather quiet about it's future on the iPhone. That was until a couple weeks ago when they contacted us to tell us that a native version had been submitted to the app store. What was released ended up being much better than I ever anticipated.
Your goal in Frenzic is to fill up 6 different pies with pie pieces that appear in the center of the screen. Each pie is made up of six different pieces. You must place the properly oriented piece into a pie where there is an available space. There are different color pieces -- while you can mix and match in a destination pie, you get more points for keeping the pie all the same color.
If you fill up a single color pie in one of the three locations that have a power up next to them, you enable that power up. Once enabled, a single tap to engage the power up. The power ups include score multipliers, a nuke button that clears the board, and a power up that slows the game down for a short while.
This game is solid. I haven't had any problems with it -- other than the game hates me and tends to send me pieces that won't fit anywhere over and over and over again. The great high score keeping options are fantastic. They include your high scores, high scores near you (neat!), and global high scores. And in a first I think for the iPhone, you have the ability to comment and even taunt other players.
Caution, this game is very addictive. Like any good puzzle game, it's easy to learn and impossible to master. Easily worth the $5, but caution the lost productivity!
