Fontify Review

Having been impressed by the artwork that can be created with fonts since playing Font Monsters, Fontify seemed rather appealing. It's an app that enables users to create their own artistic work out of a variety of different characters and a range of assorted font types. For the artistic mind, the potential is pretty huge.

Fontify is a free universal app that supplements this by charging a basic fee for features such as an undo button, send to PDF and a way of transferring images to the photo album. Each function is pretty useful so consider the free version as more of a lite or trial edition than a fully fledged app. It's still fun to mess around for those unsure about paying out though.

It's very easy to manipulate each character with controls to choose the font type and character competent and quick to set up. Moving the character is then a matter of using a finger to drag it around or twist it. The hard part is knowing what to create. In my case, I had a reminder that I have very little artistic talent despite desperately wanting to have some. I ended up creating the font equivalent of a stick man. The key point to take here however is that it was fun to do.

One cursory glance at the images already shared via the app demonstrates the potential of the app and it's pretty cool to see what can be already done. While the terrible artist in me would have liked some kind of guidance as to how best to start an image, it's clear that many others have mastered it much faster than I have. Sharing functions form much of the fun here with the potential for a great little community of Fontify based creations, as well as the all important Twitter/Facebook integration too.

For the art fan, Fontify is an excellent way of creating something a little different. With the right eye, some of these creations can look truly fantastic. The limits are purely within the user's creativity rather than the app which provides plenty of options. Fontify is an excellent and unique way of creating artwork.
