Flying Chicks is immediately reminiscent of countless flash games in the past. The object of the game is simple – fly for as long as possible and acquire the best high score. To do this you have to tap the screen to flap your wings, the challenge lies in the fact that you only have so much energy to use up. To boost the distance you attain, you have a series of power ups to collect such as a rocket which attaches to your back and sends you shooting along and energy refills. Also it’s worth staying low to the screen in order to move faster. This brings about its own problem though as you can then hit rocks and tree trunks along the way thus ending the attempt.
Flying Chicks is very simple indeed. It offers online leaderboards which are rather satisfying to work your way up, and there are a number of Game Center achievements to collect – some of them being extremely challenging. Being able to fly for 10,000 is a particular challenge and a slight hint of luck might be handy too. It’s quite fun though. The soothing nature of the gameplay means that Flying Chicks is also quite a relaxing title to play.
There’s not a huge amount of depth to the game but not all games need to be anything more than frivolous fun. It’s the sort of game you’ll play for a couple of attempts then realise that you’ve been playing it for a lot longer than that. The simplistic nature just draws you in when you’re after something that doesn’t require thinking too much.
