Fast Fishing Review

Fishing is generally seen as a slow and relaxing kind of activity. Similarly, many fishing games tap into that, providing a quite calming experience for players. Fast Fishing isn’t that kind of game. As the name suggests, it’s all about speed. It lends itself quite well to the fast-paced, five minute dose nature of mobile gaming.

Across 22 levels, you have to catch fish before the time runs out. Sometimes you'll have to seek out a specific fish, while another time you'll simply have to collect a particular amount. Time is always of the essence though, and that timer does run down quickly. Fortunately, in each case it’s quite simple to play. You ‘cast’ your iOS device by flicking it, then when you get a bite you start reeling it in by spinning the reel at speed. It doesn’t take long to learn at all, which is pretty much the premise of Fast Fishing.

It’s the kind of game you can dip into and achieve a reasonable amount in a short space of time. That's handy as it'll turn a little tedious if you play for too long. There are in-app purchases if you want to use them, such as extra space for gadgets, rods, and reels. There are chocolate crowns too, which attract bigger fish for some unknown reason. None of this is necessary, but it is enjoyable enough that you’ll want to chip some money in.

For the calmer fishing fan there’s also a Zen Mode, but really Fast Fishing is all about speed and quick gains. It’s satisfying when you reel in a particularly impressive specimen or work fast enough to catch plenty of fish before the timer runs down. While you might feel a bit silly ‘casting’ your fishing rod in public, it’s still a fun game to play when you have five minutes spare.
