Farmers have been known to be a bit of a surly lot.  These are the kind of individuals that shoot first and ask questions later, if there is anything left of you to begin with.  Now imagine taking these same folks and stage an invasion from outer space.  Let's just say that it was a good thing that Clark Kent was invincible, otherwise he would have suffered the same fate as the uninvited visitors in the new free-to-play game, Farm Invasion.

As farfetched as it may seem, when aliens attack this poor farmer's homestead, instead of running for the hills, he grabs all of the ammo he can find and fires up the nearest harvester.  This farmer then sets off on an rampage that would put Will Smith to shame, while simultaneously giving the invading forces his best rendition of, "Welcome to ERF!"  It is a brutal sight to say the least.

The game plays on a two  dimensional plane that allows players to move from front to back, harvesting as much corn as they can, while decimating the every alien in their path.  Who knew that harvesters also doubled as extra-terrestrial meat grinders?  Apparently all that this overpowered killing machine cannot mow through are solid objects like trees, crashed space ships and, of all things, randomly scattered outhouses.

Along the way players will unlock untold numbers of power-ups and abilities that can be used to increase crop yield, gain extra health and even unlock different stages.  Really, the only element that reinforces that this is a free-to-play game is that certain power-ups can be purchased using cash, and there is an ad that appears in the top-left corner, that can be turned off if the price is right.

The best part is that there are no limits to the actual amount of game time that is available without making a purchase, which is becoming more and more rare.  While it is far from a perfect game and may lack the depth of similar games that are not free, when you consider that it costs nothing and takes up fairly little space on an iPhone's hard drive, it is a fun little way to burn a few minutes.
