Ah Dodgeball, how you are the bane of all fat kids, and the sparkle in all athletic kids lives. Fortunately you do not have to be athletic to be able to play Danger! Dodgeball HD. In fact, the game works in such a way that the only thing you have to really be able to do is to rotate the iPad in various directions.
Danger! Dodgeball HD is controlled by moving the iPad, rather than by pushing a button. Rotate the iPad left or right and your future dodge ball champion moves left and right on the screen. Rotate the iPad forward, and you launch an attack with your school yard ball in hopes of knocking it into the head of your opponent. The controls are extremely intuitive, and surprisingly I found myself easily throwing balls back and forth against my opponent, rather than fighting with the iPad like I expected.
Danger! Dodgeball doesn’t follow any of the standard rules I remember growing up. This is a 1 vs. 1 dodge ball game where points are scored for each hit that’s connected. Balls scroll in front of the screen and as the player moves in front of them, he picks one up and readies it. Power ups and special abilities scroll towards the player from the opponent’s side, and if the player grabs these he can either launch one of a number of special attacks, or gain a heart back for continued play. Games are divided into 75 second matches, and your stats are provided at the end of each round. You score points for dodging balls, hitting the opponent, hitting the opponent’s ball mid air, or hitting one of graffiti spraying hooded guys that randomly walk across the screen.
At $1.99, Danger! Dodgeball is an easy investment that can help you relive the glory, or make up for the pain, of dodge ball from primary school gym class.
