Crayon Physics Deluxe's name comes not only from the fact that you use crayons to draw shapes on paper to solve puzzles, but also because each of these puzzles is physics based. You draw lines, boxes, and other shapes in your quest to cause a red circle to travel from its starting point to the ending point, which is always a yellow star. You generally have to roll the circle, but depending on the environment and its layout, that could be a straightforward or convoluted affair.

Each level of Crayon Physics Deluxe starts with the aforementioned red circle and yellow star, and either some objects or empty space separating them. There are few clues to solve each puzzle, but the basic premise is to roll the circle so it runs into the star. While you can tap to nudge it towards its destination, you generally have to draw objects that it can roll on or jump off of to complete each level.

As the levels progress this requires more and more ingenuity, but the game is simple enough for anyone to pick up and enjoy. In fact, Crayon Physics Deluxe is a fairly easy game, and you can easily skip any level you can't complete and manually choose a different one. A level editor is also included, and while it's not that easy to use, nor is there a lot of information on how to use it, for those with the perserverence it can be rewarding.

Physics based puzzling isn't new, and Crayon Physics Deluxe isn't the first game of this type for the iPhone (Touch Physics takes that honor). While both games have stylized graphics where crayons and paper are the tools you use to complete each level, Touch Physics appears to be a little more scenario based while Crayon Physics Deluxe is a tad more open ended. The distinction is hard to make, though, because both games are very similar. Bottom line is if you enjoyed Touch Physics, then you will also enjoy Crayon Physics Deluxe.
