The first difference that players will notice between Blockado and similar puzzle games is the visual fidelity. Blockado departs from the top-down 2D perspective so common to these types of games and opts for a more stylish 3D isometric view. This gives the player the opportunity to really appreciate the game's superb art direction. The textures and effects showcased in the game look great and add a huge amount of atmosphere to the game. The game reviewed in this review is the Mountain edition of Blockado, but there are also Jungle and Desert editions available that each have their own specific look and feel.
As the player explores the games different levels they will encounter the many different types of blocks that make this game unique. There are blocks of ice that slide as far as they can in one direction without stopping, flexible blocks that slither around the board, blocks that attract and repel each other, and even spring loaded blocks that push and compress. All of these different types of blocks interact with each other in unique and interesting ways and they create new, complicated dynamics that keep the game engaging.Added to all these positive points is the game's treasure hunting theme. It's not too heavy handed and adds a light plot and sense of progression to the game. Puzzle fans will really enjoy this game and players looking for a game to wow them visually won't be disappointed. There is even an option to scan QR codes to unlock added game content.
