Amazing Ants is a simple physics puzzler with cute, vibrant graphics, and easy controls. The levels are great, but there are too many ads and it’s a challenge to get enough in game currency. All things considered, it’s still a fun app and worth a download.
The goal in Amazing Ants is to get the ants to collect fruit and make it to the exit. The ants only walk in a straight line and will pickup any fruit they encounter. Tapping is the only control in the entire game and tapping initially causes the ants to start walking and tapping again causes the ant to jump. One of the limitations in Amazing Ants is that jumps are limited and can’t be used frivolously. The level design is good and completing levels is just as much about timing as it is about solving puzzles with physics.
The graphics are really top notch in Amazing Ants. They look like a comic book meant for children. The cute graphics, along with the really laid back music, create a really peaceful playing experience.
The levels range from being simple with hard jumps to really complicated puzzles. There are a bunch of game mechanics thrown in to make the puzzles more complex, like “Rocket Sticks” that give the ants a speed boost and sprinklers that shoot ants up in the air. Fortunately, players have the option to view hints that lay out step by step how to beat levels. At the end of each level, players can see if they earned a badge. In addition, every so often players get a chance to play mini-games for extra coins.
I really don’t like the ads that pop up in the middle of the screen frequently. One even appeared while I was playing a level and caused me to miss some jumps. I wouldn’t mind seeing an ad once in a while since it is a free app, but they shouldn’t show up during gameplay. In general, the frequency and number of ads that appear is higher than it should be.
Players earn coins every level based on the number of fruits collected and the time it took to complete the level. There is a store that has additional ants for purchase and additional hints credits. Sadly, coins also have to be spent on level packs, so it will definitely be hard to get any of the nice upgrades without purchasing more coins with real money.
Amazing Ants is a fun game with great levels, controls, and graphics. Unfortunately, the gameplay suffers from the amount of ads and the constant need to accumulate enough coins. I really wish this app was a couple of buck and had no ads, with cheaper items in the store. However, I still recommend this app since the levels and gameplay are so good.
