Spreadsheets on the iPhone are always a bit of a compromise. Still, there are those who would like the option to edit and, yes, even create simple spreadsheets from their phone. Mariner Calc is an ambitious effort to remove the boundaries that have been imposed on spreadsheet users.

Unfortunately this app has been released before it is ready. I could not get it to work with any POP3 email accounts (and have read customers saying that IMAP didn't seem to work), and I also could not get it to work with GMail. I also tried Hotmail accounts and other generic accounts. None worked with this application in my experience.

Although its user interface is a bit quirky, ABContacts continues to evolve. The current version works well and provides a relatively streamlined experience. It provides far more functionality than the Contacts app built into the iPhone, and is definitely worth considering.

Plus is definitely a worthwhile spreadsheet app. With it you can easily transfer Excel spreadsheets back and forth and edit and open them on both the PC/Mac and the iPhone. While it appears to be well worth its asking price, you still have to ask yourself if its limited support of Excel's XML file format will be enough for you. If you need full MS Office compatibility, this will disappoint.
