There's an increasing trend of multiplayer games that are focused towards local, more traditional experiences than what we've been used to. Turning back to how gaming used to be, these experiences require everyone to be in the same room rather than spread across the world, but can also prove to be much more enjoyable. The latest entry to such a field is Wurdy, a form of charades that should be ideal for any party scenario over the holiday period.

Players take turns to quickly describe a word or phrase while avoiding saying the term, miming, or rhyming. Each round is 60 seconds long with as many rounds available as the player wants, meaning it's ideal to fit in anywhere when there are friends gathered.

It's quite fun too, with a variety of different themes to choose from. Some of them - such as films, video games, and music - require a separate in-app purchase, but there are still a fair amount of choices. For those playing alongside younger family members, a special Kids' Zone section makes things all the easier.

To make things a little more interesting, or perhaps just 21st century-ish, Wurdy gets players to record themselves trying to describe the phrases with the option to upload the content after the game has finished. Admittedly it's pretty gimmicky and I can't see many players using it, but it doesn't exactly detract from the general experience.

A pretty simple title, Wurdy won't set the world on fire with its revolutionary gameplay but it's sure to entertain on those cold winter nights - and all the more so during the Christmas period. Gather together a keen bunch of friends or family and there's much laughter to be had here. Just don't expect it to be the kind of title to play for months on end.
