Simplicity can often be a double-edged sword. It means that a game is immediately accessible, but also often quite shallow. Wrong Way Racing is that kind of game. It's fun but takes seconds (often) to play without any real evolution to its elements. That's not a bad thing exactly but it does mean that Wrong Way Racing won't be for everyone.
The idea is very, very simple: players control a black car as it races around an oval track, attempting to avoid the other cars coming at it. A simple tap changes lane, with there only being two lanes to choose from. That's it. Success is solely dictated by how long one can last, dodging those other cars. There's a certain rhythm to Wrong Way Racing, meaning it's pretty satisfying to boost that score up, but ultimately that's it. Don't expect unlocks, new tracks, or anything like that here.
Hit the opposing cars and some pixelated flames burst upwards, indicating it's game over. Then hit play and start all over again. It's a format that's almost too simple but it kind of works as a brief distraction. It'd be handy if restarting a game was a touch quicker, but otherwise Wrong Way Racing is a very pure experience that focuses on one solitary aim.
Is it worth playing? Well, Wrong Way Racing is free and a very small download so yes, it's quite easily worth getting. Whether it'll entertain for a long time solely depends on why games appeal. Keen on a story or increasingly complex unlocks? This isn't that game. Just want a quick challenge while waiting in a queue or during the daily commute? Wrong Way Racing will scratch that itch well.
