What A Wonderful Word Review

What A Wonderful Word is the kind of puzzle game that's replacing the newspaper puzzles of old. That's not a bad thing at all, but it does mean that the game isn't perhaps the most thrilling of titles to look at. It won't test an iOS device's capabilities, but it will test the brainpower of its players.

Each puzzle is simple enough. Players are presented with a 3x3 grid of letters. The central letter is the key here in that all words created from the tiles must include it. There's a few other rules too, such as words must be at least four letters long. There has to be at least one nine letter word, and no plurals are allowed. Also, like most other word games, nouns aren't permitted either.

That's all there is to What A Wonderful Word. There's no time limit, thankfully, as many of the grids can contain over 100 different words. It's simply down to the player to take their time and gradually create new words. There's not even any form of punishment for creating incorrect words. It's all very laid back but potentially long lasting. Much like the newspaper puzzles it replicates, What A Wonderful Word is a game to dive into every now and then when inspiration strikes. It's very different from most other word games on the App Store in that there's really no need for urgency.

What A Wonderful Word promises thousands of puzzles which, given each puzzle, will take a long while to finish. It's a ton of gameplay for the price.

It's not going to appeal to everyone, nor is it anything special to look at. Indeed, it actually looks pretty dated overall, but then the point of the game isn't really to do with its visuals. For those looking for a more cerebral challenge, it's quite enjoyable and very satisfying to chip away at.
