Today I Die Again Review

Today I Die Again is like nothing you've seen before on an iOS device. If you're an avid PC gamer with a penchant for indie gems, however, this might be familiar. You see, the focus for Today I Die Again is poetry.

It's a puzzle game really but one where you have to drag and drop words into a brief poem in order to save the protagonist - a young woman who is trapped by despair. It's all really rather deep and thought provoking at times. It's a game that tugs at your emotions rather than one that tests your speed or hand to eye coordination.

There are no direct instructions as to what to do. You have to figure it out for yourself by dragging words around. Changing a word in the poem's sentence alters something about the scene. It's a puzzle to figure out what does what and what needs doing to progress. Today I Die Again is a fascinating experience because of this. Experimentation is clearly encouraged by the game's design and it's an intriguingly sombre tale.

It is, however, very short. As in only 10 minutes long short. After all, it's just a poem and the replay factor is fairly non-existent other than to take in the atmosphere once more. The game oozes artistic merit, though; even the soundtrack is gripping for its brief length.

At the time of writing, Today I Die Again is free to download. It's clearly worth a free download. It's a great experience and makes a hugely refreshing change from the more obvious delights of the App Store. Even when not on offer, it's only $0.99, which still makes it worth a look if you've got some spare change. It's art more than gaming but it's still a very memorable experience.
