The Ories: Super Space Monsters is a fun and fast paced physics arcade game. The gameplay is novel and innovative, and the app has a cute, childish look. The app also packs a lot of extra features, like instant replay, that make it stand out.
The goal of The Ories: Super Space Monsters is to navigate through space while not crashing into planets and rocks. At the end each level, players fly into the mouth of the “The Great Orbler." Players control the ship by shooting a tractor beam that attaches to the nearest object. The ship will then circle around the object until the player lets go. I’ve never played a game like this before and I was very pleased with the game play. There are always many different ways to complete each level and the tractor beam really made me think about how I had to maneuver.
The in-game currency, SP, figures prominently into the game. It can be earned by completing level and “dares”, which are essentially level specific goals, or bought with real money. SP can be spent on a litany of upgrades, perks, and to unlock characters, spaceships, or even levels.
A major annoyance to me was the number of full screen pop-up ads and the constant insistence to purchase more SP. I completely understand that developers have to make money some how, but I think the importance of SP is a little to high and that the reminders to watch videos or like the Facebook page appear a little too often.
Besides fun gameplay and 36 levels, the app has a lot of additional components. A great feature is that every play is recorded and can be watched after the fact. The videos can also be edited and shared via Everyplay. Also, there is a continuous mode and a head to head mode where players can challenge friends.
Besides the ads and the encouragement to purchase SP, The Ories: Super Space Monsters is a fun, totally worthwhile game. The fast paced arcade gameplay is innovative and different, and the additional features only sweeten the app further.
