The Golden Arrow is an infinite runner that borrows well-established game mechanics from other popular titles in the genre. It is very similar to other infinite runners and the only differentiating factor is its story. The gameplay is what one would expect, and the only downside I encountered is just how much is reminds me of other games. That being said, infinite runner fans who have grown tired of other games should consider giving it a try.
The aspect that tries to set The Golden Arrow apart are the scrolls that players can unlock. These bits of story tell of a monster-hunting Princess and a golden arrow, and serve as the reward for reaching certain milestones. There isn’t a store or in-game currency, so the scrolls are the only things to try to obtain.
The Golden Arrow’s 8-Bit art style will either delight players or frustrate them. I enjoyed the pixelated background images, but I thought the actual monster, who is doing the running, didn’t look very good. Also, the text is pixelated and takes more time to read than normal writing.
Just like so many other infinite runners, players can only jump, and the runner gains speed the longer he goes without hitting something. The levels are random, so the gameplay is never the identical. Also, along there way, there are speed boosts, and obstacles like rocks and spikes.
There isn’t too much, good or bad, to say about The Golden Arrow. The gameplay is exactly what I expected and will satisfy fans of the infinite runner genre. It doesn’t add anything innovative besides the scrolls, but anyone looking for a simple and casual game should consider it.
