Despite the fact that birthdays are commonly for receiving gifts, Magnetized's developer Rocky Hong has decided to turn the table and do some gift-giving of his own. In an interesting new approach to sales, the indie developer plans on holding a week-long tiered sale, where the price increases over the span of seven days.

Starting today (June 27), Magnetized will be made available on the App Store for free. On Sunday, June 29, the price will climb to $0.99, followed by a second jump to $1.99 on Tuesday, July 1. The moral of the story is "the early bird catches the worm."

Hopefully Rocky has just as great of a birthday as he is giving to his consumers.

Thanks to the work of studios like Double Fine, the point-and-click adventure genre has been revived on virtually every platform that offers games. A recipient of this good faith is German developer Headup Games, and their recent offering, The Inner World.

In celebration of being crowned, "Best German Game" at the German Computer Games Award 2014, the puzzler has now been marked down from $4.99 to a paltry $0.99. If a title is considered good enough to represent the best that an entire country has to offer, it has to be worth spending a buck on, right? Sounds like it is time to investigate what mysteries this "Inner World" has in store.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is going on sale to mark "Star Wars Day," and it's a sale that May the Fourth enthusiasts can love: for a limited time, it will be 60% off.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the iOS port of the popular RPG adventure in the same vein as Dungeons and Dragons; we had an opportunity to review it last year. Is is currently available for $3.99 (down from $9.99) on the App Store.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Now Available for Half-Price

XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the beefy turn-based strategy game brought to mobile from its initial PC and console release with just about everything intact, is on sale now for $9.99. This is cheaper than the game's current price on Steam ($29.99), so it's a real comparative bargain. As well, the Android launch clocked in $9.99 without any indicators that it was a sale price, so this may be a permanent price drop for the game, and quite possibly one of the best values on mobile.

If you need to know more about XCOM: Enemy Unknown, our 148Apps Goes Deep series of articles on the game is well worth catching up on.

Duke Nukem 3D Now Free

iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Hail to the King baby, Duke Nukem 3D is now available for free on all iOS devices. The game which many have called the best Duke Nukem outing on mobile devices is now available for the irresistible price of zero, so if you've somehow managed to avoid the game until now you've run out of excuses. Go download the title, before Duke comes to your house and puts his cigar out in your eye.

The game has been handcrafted for iOS, ditching traditional shooter controls and instead creating whole new movement and navigation mechanics from scratch. The slider-based controls, coupled with the unique TapShoot combat mechanics make the game easy to play, while still retaining a fair amount of challenge. And yes, if you're a traditionalist you can turn on a classic thumbstick onscreen controller so no griping allowed about how you don't like these newfangled controls.

The new control scheme, coupled with the franchise's trademark humor, create a game which is considered by many to be an iOS classic, and rightly so. Whether you've never played the game before and just want to check it out or maybe you have the standard version of the game and want to pick up the HD edition on iPad now's the time, as you can't beat a game this good being available for literally nothing.

We're currently unsure how long the game will be available for gratis, as we believe this to be a temporary price cut rather than a permanent price reduction. In that case, it would be best not to hem and haw around, and instead go ahead and grab as many copies of the game as you want right now before the price goes back up. Don't wait around and miss out; after all, those aliens aren't going to shoot themselves in the face.
