The 5 Best Mobile Battle Royale Games

Posted by Campbell Bird on June 1st, 2022

The release of Call of Duty: Warzone on PC and consoles renewed a lot of people’s interest in the battle royale genre. Once a red-hot game mode a couple years ago, battle royales have maintained their prominence despite finding more competition with other popular genres like autochess and more traditional multiplayer shooters, particularly on mobile.

Although you can’t play Warzone on touch screens (although maybe someday that will change), there are plenty of battle royale games you can jump into right now. Check out our five favorites below. Oh, and click here to check out all of the great lists we’ve been making recently.

A few days ago, Call of Duty’s Twitter handle teased “Dogg tags” in a video that lasted for a few seconds. The background audio with an iconic cough and signature “damn” made it clear that it was none other than Snoop Dogg.

The golden Dogg tags had some names and dates embossed on them and, of course, fans were quick to spot them. The tags confirmed that Snoop Dogg, the legendary rapper, will make an appearance in Call of Duty Mobile on April 1st. Further, the tags confirmed that Snoop Dogg will feature in Vanguard and Warzone on April 19th.

Activision might release Warzone Mobile in 2022

A few months ago, there were some rumours floating on the internet about a mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone. However, the buzz soon died down as there was no confirmation from the developers. The speculation was based on several job advertisements by Activision, which pointed towards a new game that is under development.

COD Mobile: The 5 best SMGs in the game

Posted by Nitisha Upadhye on September 17th, 2021

COD Mobile is often lauded for its vast array of weapons and elaborate customization. With every update, the guns get some kind of nerfs or buffs. Regardless of that, SMGs remain popular with players for close to mid-range combat.

The 5 best Assault Rifles in COD Mobile 2021

Weapons and their elaborate customization are some of the top reasons that make COD Mobile a popular game. Call of Duty Mobile is loaded with weapons. There are Assault Rifles, Snipers, SMGs, LMGs, and every other imaginable weapon, can be found in COD Mobile.

Assault Rifles are relatively easy to use. They do not have a lot of recoil and are generally quite balanced. Typically, ARs are used for close to medium-range combat. However, some great ARs are also suitable for long-range gunfights.

The 5 Best Mobile Multiplayer Shooters

Posted by Campbell Bird on April 13th, 2020

I spent part of my weekend playing Valorant, the new multiplayer shooter from Riot Games. While I was waiting to get into the beta, though, I was trying to see if I could find anything else like it, particularly on mobile. Perhaps this is unsurprising to say, but: This was hard to do.

For those not familiar, Valorant is a 5v5 multiplayer shooter that’s more-or-less Counter-Strike with hero characters. It’s pretty fun, but requires a lot of focus and teamwork. Few mobile games really fall into this camp, so I decided instead to go for just good multiplayer shooters in general.

For the purposes of this list, “good” generally means the following: 1) No unbalanced free-to-play mechanics (i.e. fusing guns or characters to increase their stats), and 2) people are still playing them. Check out the picks below. Oh, and click here to check out all the great lists we’ve been making lately.

Call of Duty Mobile - Three other Activision titles we'd love to see coming to iPhone and iPad

Posted by Harry Slater on March 20th, 2019

This week Activision has revealed that Call of Duty Mobile is real, it's coming soon, and it looks pretty awesome. We got all of that from a trailer, but it also got us thinking about what other Activision games we'd like to see coming to mobile. Because that's the sort of thing we think about here at 148Apps towers.

We've not included any Blizzard games in the list, since we had a bit of a deep dive into how they might work for mobile when the big B revealed it was looking to bring all of its franchises to mobile. Instead we've focused on Activision published titles - specifically ones with plenty of action, since everyone loves action and explosions.

Got your own suggestions as to which Activision games you'd like to see coming to mobile? Then do let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article. It's a huge company with a massive back catalogue, and we'd love to hear your ideas about how it could bring some of those games to mobile.

The best shooters on iOS

Posted by Campbell Bird on March 19th, 2019

In case you missed it yesterday, Tencent and Activision announced they are putting out a new Call of Duty game for mobile. While details are pretty scant, they did put out a trailer (see above) and have a page where you can pre-register for the game, which might give you in-game rewards when the game actually launches.

Based on what's shown in the trailer, it looks to be a no-nonsense attempt to shoehorn every facet of mainline CoD games into a mobile package, which could be good. Though personally, I have my doubts. There are already precious few first-person shooters on mobile that are any good at all. Many of the best ones, like Call of Duty: Strike Force, have disappeared off the App Store completely. Meanwhile, things like Modern Combat 5 persist, which is a prime example of how to faithfully recreate the feeling of a big budget shooter on mobile while also leaning heavily into every worst tendency of free-to-play mobile design.

In light of all this news and speculation, I decided to dig back into our archives here and pull up a list of the best shooters on mobile. Many of these are not first-person shooters, mind you (as most of the good ones of those are gone), but they can still scratch your shooter fix while we all wait and see if Call of Duty Mobile is any good or not.
