Philips Wireless Microphone and Bluetooth Speaker Review

The two pieces of the Philips Wireless Microphone and Bluetooth Speaker set are the dock and the microphone. It can be used as a standalone speaker dock for the iPad or iPhone, or with the karaoke app StarMaker to enable the karaoke feature. StarMaker does a passable job, but the downside to the app is that it's freemium and only initially comes with access to a couple songs. Other songs can be earned by singing well in the game, or purchased.

The speaker dock part itself is fairly standard and well done dock. It has a heavy bass response and sounds good. If there is one downside to the dock it's that it has a 30 pin connector.

Overall, it's a pretty good system, but way overpriced. Only available at Apple Stores and on Apple.com, it's priced at $179.99. That's about a $100 premium over other similar docks, just for the microphone alone. Probably not worth it except for the most ardent karaoke fans.
