We are around one week away from the originally reported global release date for Sonic Rumble, and it's bad news for fans of the speedy blue hedgehog; it has unfortunately been delayed. And much worse, we don't have a solid date for when it will actually come out.

To give credit to Sega, they have been upfront about why; they need more time to ensure it is a good game. This is an approach that I genuinely respect, and it is one I would actually prefer other developers to take. Spend a little time perfecting the project instead of releasing it in a half-baked state and trying to patch over it a dozen times.

In the meantime, Sonic Rumble will remain in its pre-launch state for those lucky enough to have access. There is even an update 1.2 on the way that will add some fun-sounding features. You can make your own Crew with your friends, full of your favourite Sonic characters.

If you would prefer to compete with chums instead, then you can head to the Rumble Ranking. It is your classic league system, where you rise through the ranks by amassing enough points in a certain period and can win prizes from it. To reach the top, you will need to master the Skill system, equipping your character with unique abilities to customise your playstyle and secure the win.

For those around the world, there is a positive note to hang on to. The pre-registration has passed 1.4 million, so every milestone goal has been reached. That means Movie Sonic and Garnet Knuckles Skin will be distributed to all, as well as Rings, a Happy sticker, and most importantly, the Crystal Chao buddy.

You can pre-register Sonic Rumble ahead of the eventual release on the App Store and Google Play.
