It might not be particularly taxing but there's a certain charm to SnapMatch Soccer, a soccer/tile matching game mash-up.
Each game consists of a full soccer match taking place at the top of the screen while the bottom half of the screen is devoted to tile matching. Kind of like a game of pairs, players must match up corresponding tiles faster than the opposition. Create a pair and an event to your advantage takes place in the soccer match. Create enough pairs and you get the chance to score a goal, which involves tapping on the two relevant tiles that appear on screen.
There's a little more strategy taking place than that, though. Namely, the opposition is pretty speedy so you have to beat them to the tile matching punch. The AI learns reasonably quickly too, so it's imperative that you don't miss out on a useful match because odds are they'll get there first. It's possible to block them from using a tile briefly by tapping on it, which can be useful when you're trying to remember where the matching opposite is.
To add to the longevity of SnapMatch Soccer, there's a series of leagues to play through as well as the opportunity to take part in friendlies. These friendlies give you the chance to earn coins, which are then used to unlock new league matches. As a game by Strange Flavour, SnapMatch Soccer has a PlayNice system, which means any in-app purchases are capped and far fairer than usual, plus it's perfectly possible to earn coins through conventional play.
SnapMatch Soccer keeps it simple and it's certainly not particularly tricky, just fast-paced, but it's an enjoyable romp and an interesting new take on the soccer genre.
