Play Sea Turtle Rescue and help save real turtles

For most of us playing a mobile game is just a harmless way to kill some time, fight boredom or get a nice quick adrenaline fix. We don’t expect this to have any influence whatsoever on any other creature in the world.

Well this is not the case if you choose Sea Turtle Rescue. Recently released by indie outfit Simberon, Sea Turtle Rescue is intended to help real life sea turtles, with its Ottawa-based developer donating 10% of all profits from the game to the Canadian Sea Turtle Network – a charitable organization from Nova Scotia which helps conserve endangered sea turtles in Canadian waters and world-wide.

Sea Turtle Rescue is a tile-based puzzle game where you match numerical sequences to create paths for baby turtles to reach the sea. From there on, your efforts will be focused on avoiding different threats on the beach as you move your hatchling along the 12 different levels.

The puzzles will get more and more challenging but fear not. There are tools available that make your job easier: hammers to nail tiles, magnets to stick them together and if everything else fails, bombs to blow the more troublesome tiles away.

The game offers several in app purchases and a part of the money you spend gets redirected to save the sea turtles. “It’s a natural partnership. The Canadian Sea Turtle Network does good work not only with their efforts to conserve sea turtles but also in their outreach through children’s camps and the Sea Turtle Center – an interactive museum about sea turtles. Since our game is about rescuing sea turtles, we like the idea of helping sea turtles in real life”, said David Buck, Simberon founder.

The Canadian Sea Turtle Network (www.seaturtle.ca) is a charitable organization based in Nova Scotia. It combines the talents of scientists, commercial fishers, coastal community members, marine educators and members of the general public to conserve endangered sea turtles in Canadian waters and worldwide.
