Rolling Hero

It can be tough for a little guy with no arms or legs (or even sharp angles) to be the hero. There’s honestly not a lot to work with in that situation. But that doesn’t prevent Rolling Hero from trying to save his girlfriend from the nasty spiked Redman. Overcoming adversity, ladies and gentlemen!

So the badguy has kidnapped our hero’s girlfriend and he has to get her back. Simple enough concept. Of course getting around with no physical means to do so can make things a bit more of a challenge. The hero in Rolling Hero is totally incapable of moving on his own, so players must rotate the entire level around him to get things moving. Tapping the left side of the screen rolls left, right rolls right, and getting the little yellow ball to the exit is the gameplan. Of course there are also a bunch of hazards to avoid along the way.

Rollgin Hero’s core gameplay is a bit simple, but the levels themselves end up turning it into a much more complicated concept. Getting to the exit is easy enough but doing so while gathering all the flowers scattered throughout, avoiding all the death traps, snagging the key to unlock the exit, and gathering clocks to add more time takes quite a bit more finesse. Thankfully it’s fun rather than frustrating and the tap controls register just fine.

It’s a very inoffensive time wasting casual game, but that can also be a problem. All of the extraneous bells and whistles iOS gamers have come to expect (unlocks, costume bits, etc) are nowhere to be found. Not that Rolling Hero needs any of that stuff to be fun, but it could certainly hurt a person’s desire to keep playing once all of the levels have been bested.

It’s not an incredibly deep game, but Rolling Hero is lots of simple fun. It can be a great way to kill time in little bursts or more prolonged sessions, but there might not be much incentive to come back to it once everything is completed. Still, it’s certainly a fun distraction.
