Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! Review

Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! is a free-to-play match-3 title that goes beyond the typical match-3 gameplay. There’s a lot of action involved as hordes of zombies move down the street towards the survivors. As zombies move closer, it’s up to the player to select three zombies in order to eliminate them. However, it’s not just about selecting threes as players need to do their best to make sure they create a wide triangular area with more zombies in it. By doing this the survivors will eliminate the three zombies that were matched along with the zombies inside the triangle.

Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! is a wild ride that’s much fun to play. It is free-to-play, however, so it does have its moments should players fall short of victory. There is a campaign mode that's full of levels and looks as if it goes on and on forever. I was able to get well past 25 before things got really difficult and I began dying. There is a lot of entertaining gameplay before this moment hits. Players get three lives, and once they lose a life they’ll have to wait 20 minutes to gain another. So, should players come across a really difficult level like I did where I lost all three of my lives in one level, they'll pretty much have to wait for 20 minutes before trying again.

This isn’t neccesarily a bad thing with Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! Why? Because when it’s time to wait for a life to return in the campaign mode players can go play survival for free, which has zero limitations on how many times they can play. Of course it’s survival mode, and once players put up a top time it can get slightly old after a while. Survival mode is also more difficult for those who play for free as players have the option to buy bonus packs that provide extra usable items, along with extra characters for increased firepower.

Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! is all about the items, and that's what gives it a little bit of that extra enjoyment we all look for in games. First of all, certain stages have interactive elements for players to use at the right moment to get them out of a jam. This includes trains, bridges that open up, and air vents that blow zombies away. As for the items, players can earn gun turrets, ninjas that slice away everything, helicopters that shoot down anything, and more. They can even toss grenades at the oncoming zombies if matching three becomes too hard for a moment. There are many options that are earned by completing combos and even more that can be bought, both through in-app purchase and by collecting coins during stages.

Zombie! Zombie! Zombie! is an action-packed match-3 game that may surprise some, but it may vary for others depending on how long it holds their attention due to those minor freemium roadblocks.
