Solely focused on high score chasing, Word Science is a game to play against friends. While frequently rewarding to aim for a better score than before, hooked up via Facebook, it's all the better when there are friends to challenge.
Each game involves a series of letter tiles that fly across the screen. It's down to the player to create words from these letters, with longer words meaning more points. A time limit ensures that the pressure of coming up with such creations is consistently there. At times, the game will suggest a particular word that if created means bonus points, but it's not always the best course of action to take. There's the constant pay off between choosing to create many short words but quickly, or taking the time to create something much longer.
Such bonuses are applied through the use of coins, which can be gained through ordinary play or in-app purchases. Given that Word Science is priced at $0.99 it's a little cheeky that in-app purchases are so prominent here, but at least they don't affect how often one can play the game.
As a score chasing title, Word Science is one to dive into for short periods of time but it's surprising how often one comes back for more. Simply done, it's an easy game to find the time for a quick gaming sessions, while still feeling that something has been achieved in that time.
Word Science doesn't, admittedly, offer anything hugely revolutionary to the word gaming genre, but that doesn't stop it from being quite entertaining to play.
