Vocalia

Vocalia has made an attempt a voice recognition application that scans your contacts and allows you to say the name of a contact to get to their details. It does not automatically dial a contact, just allow you to quickly get to the contact details. You can then call one of the phone numbers from there if you wish. The problem is that this early version only seems to find the right contact at most 1/2 of the time.

The application itself looks nice. The single large purple eye, reminiscent of 2001 A Space Odyssey and Hal's red eye, is the main interactive element. The application will then show up to 3 possible matches. Of the times I tried it the correct contact rarely came up in the top of the list and less than 1/2 the time even showed up on the list. I'm not sure what the problem is, perhaps it works best with smaller contact lists? I currently have over 400 contacts, perhaps matches are easier for smaller lists.

I think this application has great potential. It's just not ready for prime time. Perhaps if it's something that you like to play around with it would be of interest to you. For now, I can't recommend it. Looks great, but doesn't work well enough.

Vocalia

Vocalia tries to satisfy the need for a voice dialer, but it's not there yet
