Returning to a more comfortable time of mobile puzzle gaming where gaining three stars at the end of a stage was the height of success, TripTrap isn't revolutionary but it is a fun title to dip into.

Players control Ched the hungry mouse as he attempts to seek out three pieces of cheese within each level. With 80 levels in all, it's a wonder that Ched doesn't end up too big to be supported by the shelves he negotiates, for he's certainly a greedy creature. Controls are of the one touch variety; simply requiring players to flip between the various shelves of each level, dodging obstacles, and collecting cheese.

It's a simple to learn mechanic but one that works well throughout the game. Early on it's often just a matter of negotiating the shelves and nothing more, but soon enough obstacles such as spike pits and flying spikes get in the way. Fast reactions soon become as important as route planning. A button opens up allowing Ched to speed up a bit, often proving handy when timing things right.

Once a themed section of the game has been completed, a puzzle mode opens up for it. While this doesn't change the nature of the levels, it does add the significant challenge of restricting how many jumps can be completed in order to finish the stage. I found I was keen to go back for more too, just for the sake of completion. Admittedly there's no timer for each stage, reducing the challenge somewhat, but it's the kind of game that encourages fast play instinctively - proving more enjoyable that way.

While TripTrap doesn't reinvent the wheel exactly, it's still a fun puzzle game. Offering the enjoyable combination of cute graphics, easy to learn controls, and just enough challenge to be satisfying, it's a fun way to spend some spare time.
