THRED is an interesting take on a familiar social networking concept. More visual than most, it’s all about creating "Threds" - a kind of comic book/scrap book mixture of things, enabling you to showcase anything from a recent cooking project to a stunning holiday. It’s got potential.

Creating a Thred starts with one of three options. You can choose to find a photo online, import one from your camera roll, or start from a particular location. The latter option tries to give you a relevant starting point depending on the area. You can browse images depending on the day you snapped them too, which is particularly handy when you’re trying to co-ordinate holiday photos.

Once you’ve started creating a Thred, there are plenty of options to dive into. In each image’s case, you can apply filters, stickers, borders, and captions to illustrate your point. The results, therefore, can be as wacky or as straight forward as you like.

That makes THRED a surprisingly flexible networking tool. For instance, you could piece together a recipe guide on how to make your favorite meal, just as easily as you could create an album of a happy trip with a loved one. It’s reasonably imaginative stuff and the kind of thing that should help THRED thrive in a busy market of social networking apps.

Browsing through other people’s creations is just as easy too, with some cool ideas popping up. Everything is based around sliding and gestures, meaning it’s very easy as well as quick to navigate. Currently, there seems to be a reasonably active community too.

Taking the typical social networking ethos and twisting it slightly seems pretty successful for THRED. It’s an interesting app to browse as well as create things for. Limited mostly only by your imagination, it’s good to see so few restrictions on what you can make out of Threds.
