The Robot Factory is a good app for unleashing your kids’ imaginations. It allows them to piece together robots from many, many different parts before testing them out in the world. It could perhaps do with a few more instructions early on, but it’s got charm.

As the name suggests, a lot of your time is spent within a factory environment. More than 50 robot parts are available, meaning there are thousands of combinations to experiment with. There are torsos, legs, heads, arms, eyes, and many more bits and pieces to use here. Once you’ve got some kind of robot formed, you can choose one of nine different color schemes too. Plus, there’s a way in which to record your own robot sounds.

Understandably, just the creation side of things is going to spark children’s imaginations. You could spend a lot of time here experimenting with various forms of robot. While it’s fun to create utter messes, you’d be wise to create something that could actually move around. That’s due to the next stage of the game - testing.

Testing involves taking the robot out into the virtual world within the game and seeing how it can traverse various scenarios. It all ties into the physics driven nature of the game, soon teaching your kids various important things about construction. Mess up and this can be a frustrating part of the app, but also an important one when it comes to learning.

As an educational tool, The Robot Factory is a great way of sparking your kids’ imaginations. It can tie in well with a discussion on the importance of physics and planning things out, but it can also be a fun way of letting their imagination go wild in a way that isn’t possible in real life. It’s full of charm and personality, meaning they’re sure to stick with it for a while.
