SongPop was oh so addictive the first time around. It turns out the second time is just as enticing. SongPop 2 could have maybe done with a few more innovations, but given that all your progress from the original carries over anyhow it’s no great loss in any way.
If you somehow missed the craze the first time round - SongPop 2 is a matter of music trivia. You listen to a clip of music, select what you think the song is, and see if you answered it correctly and faster than your opponent. You take it in turns to choose the playlist, and those playlists cover all manners of different genres and decades. It’s the game that never ends, basically, and that’s a blessing and a curse.
SongPop 2 adds to the one on one sessions through a new party mode. This time round, you can opt to battle it out for the highest score amongst everyone through daily tournaments. That means special prizes, kudos, and a whole extra reason to keep on playing. Soon enough, your competitive side shines through and you spend your day checking in to make sure you’re maintaining that all important lead.
Elsewhere, SongPop 2 is mostly business as usual. You can now try out some playlists for free, before choosing to pay up through in-game coins, plus you can enjoy a practice mode too, but the principle remains the same.
That principle is oh so addictive though, much like before. It’s almost inescapable at times, easily sapping up your free time. That’s even more so if you have an Apple Watch, given you can receive notifications through that and never quite step away from the addiction.
As dark as that might sound though, that’s because SongPop 2 is a lot of fun. It’s pitched well so you can achieve a lot in a short space of time, and who can resist testing their friends’ music knowledge?
