I can't think of too many games that feature a snail as the main hero (can't think of any, really) but this is definitely one of them. Snail Bob is a charming, witty puzzle game that will have players guiding a snail named Bob through 60 levels of challenging adventure.
Each level features a number of deadly hazards that Bob will need to safely pass on his way to the exit. Players interact with the game mostly by flipping switches, turning cranks and sliding obstacles around in addition to a number of other clever puzzle designs. A switch might activate a door or cut power to a high-voltage wire, allowing Bob to safely cross. Of course, as the game progresses, the puzzles become more complicated. A switch that cuts power to a high-voltage wire might also deactivate a trap door, allowing Bob to fall to his death. Players will need to be able to act quickly and concentrate on many things at once.
Along the way, each level has 3 hidden stars that players can collect by tapping on them. Some stars are placed out in the open, completely obvious to the player, while others might need a sharper eye to locate. Some stars can be hidden behind obstacles, only found when the player flips a switch that moves the obstacle. However, the danger of hurting Bob or blocking his path means that players will need to follow a complex set of steps that require timing in order to collect the stars and finish the level. Finally, some stars only show up briefly, requiring the player to have good reflexes to nab them before they disappear.
As players progress through the game, they can unlock images in a gallery depicting Bob as famous celebrities and pop culture icons. They'll also follow Bob along as his story unfolds, from getting him back home to helping him bring a gift to his grandfather to his travels in distant lands. The artwork and character designs are cute, and the animations make the story very easy to follow.
Snail Bob isn't as hard as some puzzle games, but the number of levels make it last for more than a few hours. The developer has also indicated that there will be more levels coming, so even if players can't get enough of what's on offer, they'll get more when it's available. Fun, easy to play, good looking and plenty of challenge. Snail Bob seems like it would be great for kids, too. Definitely worth playing!
