Science fiction is a popular book genre that keeps expanding every year. With all the available material floating around, it’s hard to not only find new titles to read but to also keep track of all the favorites. Thankfully, there’s now an app that does all that and more.

Sci-Fi Library is a free book app that comes loaded with over 100 classic award winning Sci-Fi and Fantasy books. Simply tap on the Awards button and view books by Hugo Award, Nebula Award or World Fantasy Award for best novel. When it’s time to find something new to read, just tap on the Explore button to search on the internet or scan the barcode of books with the iPhone's camera.

Users can then read a detailed description and view pictures of the book as well as mark the book as read, wanted, currently reading or not read. Users can also checkmark that they own the book or they can head over to the Amazon.com store within the app itself and add it to their cart and read reviews.

Sci-Fi Library provides users with a great free way to keep track of all their favorites as well as discover new ones. While the interface is simple, it suits the app perfectly because it doesn’t distract from its purpose. I found it easy to navigate from one section to the next, and it’s awesome that users can research books online without having to ever leave the app.

The app isn’t without a few faults though. It needs more recommended reading lists to help users discover books as well as more book store browsing options. Also, it could benefit from social network integration or even its own forum for users to show off their favorite books and authors. Additionally, there appears to be a bug that needs polished as I couldn’t get the “Welcome to your Sci-Fi Library” screen to disappear after I marked books that I owned. I tried restarting the app, but I still see the same screen which is rather disappointing. Hopefully it’s fixed with a quick update. All in all, the main functions of the app still appear to work well.

Sci-Fi Library is ideal for Science Fiction and Fantasy fanatics. Its easy-to-use interface makes it a hassle-free way to start or build a Science Fiction library. It’s completely free to download so it’s well worth checking out and exploring today.
