The game starts out with a safe that players must examine. The goal is to solve different magician style puzzle boxes. The game is completely interactive and it encourages gamers to explore every nook and cranny. There’s keys to be discovered, secret messages to be found and riddles to be solved.
Players must use their brain power and a little bit of trial and error to solve each of the four chapters. The controls are smooth and work great for this style of game. Pinch and double tap to zoom, swipe with your finger to move around and tap on objects to explore them.
Some puzzles are hard to wrap your brain around at first, while others are easy yet clever. The Room offers a three step hint system to help players who may get stuck on one element. The difficulty of the entire game is what I loved about it the most. It’s not frustrating, but it’s not exactly a piece of cake either. It requires some patience to get through, but it’s worth it in the end.
The Room is a mind-bending puzzler that anyone can pick-up-and-play. The visuals are breath-taking and the game play is truly well-designed. Besides the fact it felt a little short, there wasn’t anything that I disliked about it. If you love a good mystery and games that make you feel clever, I highly recommend buying The Room today. It’s an Apple Editor’s Choice game this week as well.
