Nova's Dream Review

There's certainly a likable quality surrounding Nova's Dream. It's simple to look at but a little charming nonetheless, with similarly simple to learn controls. With a bit of polish, this could perhaps be something more appealing. For now though, Nova's Dream is not quite there.

The idea is to help Nova, a smiling face, collect up various green shapes without falling out of orbit. This is done through simple touch controls, with a touch to the left or right tilting the screen the relevant direction. Very subtle taps are vital here as Nova's Dream is quite tricky. It's very easy to fall too far away from the ground and get sucked into space. At first, this can be frustrating but after some practice, things do steadily get more intuitive.

Nova's Dream has reasonably accurate controls here, although the omission of tilt controls is strange. This is a title that would have benefited from such methods, as it's hard not to find oneself instinctively tilting the device anyhow.

It's also strange that while Nova's Dream gives one a rating out of three stars for each level completion, there's no explanation as to how these are gained. A score or time isn't offered upon completion so it's not clear how to improve on one's past performances. Similarly, Game Center support would have been useful here for competitive reasons.

It's these little moments of polish that could have gone some way to improving Nova's Dream. As it stands, it's a reasonable if challenging experience. Those 40 levels should keep most players happy for a while with things progressively getting more tricky, but Nova's Dream lacks those competitive elements in which to really encourage one to play for longer.
