Nerf Hoops is essentially Paper Toss with commercial branding. It's not bad, but it's not remarkable either.

Without uttering a word, Nerf Hoops by Backflip Studios delivers a single, solid truth: there is never a bad time to shoot some baskets. Not even in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. Not even if said apocalypse somehow deflates every basketball in the world and replaces them with disembodied brains.

Though simple, Nerf Hoops is addictive. This comes as no surprise. Backflip, the makers of the incredibly popular time-waster Paper Toss, knows a thing or two about the allure of tossing objects into baskets (preferably on company time).

As its name suggests, Nerf Hoops is a basketball game that's all about takin' it to the hoop. Players merely flick their finger to send the ball flying. If they get a basket, they get a point. They accumulate high scores, and if they beat those high scores, they get to feel good about themselves. There are also leaderboards courtesy of Game Center, and the questionable top scores are in the quantacillions. Good luck beating those.

Nerf Hoops offers several environments to go "swisssssh" in, including a dorm room (wherein players lob balls at one of those stick-on mini-nets that every procrastinator in the world owns, or should own), a regular basketball court, a street, and, intriguingly, a busted-up city overrun with zombies.

Like Paper Toss, Nerf Hoops is a pretty fun distraction but lacks meat. Granted, there's not much that can be expected from a game centered around flicking objects into nets, though Nerf Hoops does offer a couple of challenges - including ever-increasing distances according to the court, as well as powerful winds capable of knocking a shot way off.

But this is definitely an instance where a little extra effort would go a long way. Nerf Hoops has very little background interaction for example, which is a shame because how cool would it be to lob basketballs at zombies and watch them splatter like overripe mangoes? And what about tossing a ball at a building and taking out some windows, thereby satisfying the inner vandal scheming in all of us?

As it stands, Nerf Hoops is an addictive and competent "throw stuff in a basket" game in the vein of Paper Toss. That's fine, but a few touches would make it something more.
