It’d be easy to dismiss Ice Age Avalanche as yet another match-3 game because, well, it's kind of exactly that. That doesn’t mean it isn’t quite enjoyable if you like that kind of thing, but don’t expect much of a revolution here - bar one exception.
That exception is the ability to move fruit in any direction. That means you can finally slide things diagonally and it makes an important difference. It takes a little practice to adjust to that change of direction, but it also gives you more freedom when it comes to manipulating the fruit.
Other than that though, Ice Age Avalanche is business as usual. Some levels require you to achieve a certain high score, while another might involve you dropping acorns from the top to the bottom of the screen. Then there’s the always irritating matter of clearing ice across the board, which is a common thing for such games.
It’s fun enough, even despite that predictable energy system, but don’t expect Ice Age Avalanche to excite or thrill. You’ve played it before but with a different backdrop. If you love match-3, you’ll still be happy, but this format is getting a little tired.
