Hexy is a strategy board game based on hexagonal cells that was recently released by a former Tapulous employee and a computer science PHD student. It's an original take on so many classic board games that no one seems to play anymore.
The goal of Hexy is to connect your two walls together, piece by piece, before your opponent does the same. When you start the game, who goes first is randomly chosen. The player that goes second gets the opportunity to steal the first move. From there the play continues as you and your opponent place pieces and try to block their moves while still completing your path. As you can imagine there is a fair bit of strategy in this and the computer opponent is pretty good at it.
There are three ways you can play, single player against the computer, with a friend on the same iPhone, or against another iPhone on the same wifi network as you. In addition, there are three levels of difficulty designated by the size of the board. While the AI is very good, almost impossible at the highest level, this game is the most fun is with two real players.
If you enjoy board games or strategy games, you'll love Hexy. It's a fun game that's well designed and easy to pick up, especially so with the built in help. And watch out for the bees!
