DogAt LA is quite basic to look at but it should quickly establish itself as a useful app for dog owners in the LA area and visitors to the city.

The app offers plenty of details as to what restaurants, parks and other places owners can take their beloved pooches without any problems. It works on a couple of different levels, offering users the ability to either track by their current location or by a specific area of the city.

Once the area has been chosen, it's then possible to browse the establishments available plus some relevant details. Restaurants, for instance, offer a rough guide to average prices, address and website details, all important map directions and opening hours. Other brief details are also included such as whether dogs are allowed inside or outside and whether waiter service is provided.

Stores and Parks offer similar features with maps and opening hours providing most useful, but also information as to what they actually offer.

It's all quite useful stuff, backed up by the ability to invite friends to a location via the app and the email functionality. Favorites can be marked for later consultation, as the city certainly offers plenty of places to visit. This function will prove particularly useful to those planning a trip and in need of narrowing down some options, according to region.

Finally, there's an events section which is used to list the many dog adoption days across the city. Ideal for those who haven't yet found their perfect pet. It's regularly updated, also, so users should be able to keep up to date with happenings quite easily. One tap transfers the date to iCal for later reference.

It all makes for a pretty handy app for dog owners. While it is restricted to the LA region, it seems like the ideal franchise to spread further afield and cover other major cities, as DogAt LA will be a useful tool for many. I know I'd love to see such an app for my city.
