The game that spawned so many pretenders to the throne - Clicker Heroes - has finally made its way to iOS. Guess what? It’s almost annoyingly addictive. Deep down you know there’s no point, yet you’ll still find yourself checking in and inching your way further along to victory.

You should know this genre by now. You start out tapping on a monster in order to beat it up and gain some gold. That gold can then be used to upgrade your tapping powers, or to buy a hero to help you out on the side. The latter is the best method with you able to leave the game to do everything by itself. Put enough money into other heroes and you won’t have to tap again if you don’t want to.

Essentially, Clicker Heroes is a game that plays itself and yet you’ll find yourself checking in so often. As you keep playing, new things unlock. You’ll find yourself able to join clan and participate in multiplayer battles, but it’ll take you a while to get that far. Clicker Heroes trickle feeds such content though so you’ll soon end up under its spell.

More importantly, Clicker Heroes is as complex as you want it to be. You can just check in and spend your gold, but you can also learn the best routes to discovering ancient monsters or improving your damage per second massively. There’s a good reason why there are Wikis devoted to Clicker Heroes, as well as an entire subreddit. It can be pretty detailed under its simple looking hood.

Critics might complain that there’s no point to Clicker Heroes, but arguably that’s the case with any game. The satisfaction you’ll glean from such a mixture of idleness and tapping is a strange one, but it’s certainly there. You’ll soon find yourself wrapped up in its spell.
