Previously a Facebook casual game, much like developers, King.com's earlier hit Bubble Witch Saga, Candy Crush Saga is a fun yet challenging Match Three game. All the better, despite a plethora of in-app purchases on offer, all but the most impatient of players have no real need to spend any money.

Rather than being hugely fast paced, Candy Crush Saga is a more strategic kind of Match Three game. Across the many levels available, players are tasked with goals such as to bring certain ingredients down to the bottom of the screen or to clear the jelly covering many of the pieces of candy across the level. Each stage also offers a different kind of landscape with some including the challenge of an awkward shape which makes it difficult to negotiate.

While the first few levels might be simple enough, it's not long before levels start to challenge players significantly. Players are given only so many moves in order to complete a level, before a life is exhausted and they must try again. This is where the limited supply of lives come into play. Like with so many Facebook games, players must wait for their lives to refresh before playing again. This can take between 15 and 30 minutes to wait for. Players can opt to spend money on extra lives, as well as power-ups but despite the temptation, I found it simple enough to pursue the free route.

The sheer fact that spending money is at all tempting is a testament to Candy Crush Saga, however. It's a fun Match Three puzzler and refreshingly taxing at times. A few free power-ups to start out with would have been appreciated but it's forgivable, given the otherwise fun nature of the game. It'll make you hungry for candy, too!
