Avoid. is one of those games that passes five minutes quite nicely. It’s a simple concept that means you’ve seen most of what it has to offer in a matter of seconds, but that doesn’t stop you from coming back for more.
You drag a simple figure around the screen with one finger, dodging four blades that spin around the area. That’s pretty much it. As you last progressively longer, the blades get faster so your reactions have to speed up too. You can get away with being hit three times, losing a limb each time, before it’s game over.
Elsewhere on the screen are coins to collect and power ups that slow things down, giving you some precious extra space to duck around those blades. That’s as complicated as Avoid. gets though.
Longevity is offered through using acquired coins to buy new outfits for your character, such as a ninja or even a politician. They might not change the general tone of the game, but it’s fun to aim towards unlocking something new.
Avoid. is a fairly disposable game, kind of like fast food, in that you’ll enjoy it but rarely anticipate it after the initial fix. Sometimes that’s all anyone needs though, and Avoid. is made well enough to entice for a brief time.
