Mathew Cox originally helped develop Scribblenauts, and has just released his very own free arcade game. Returno is a basic reflex testing game where the objective is to tap different colored discs that fly across the screen in multiple directions to send them back to their home color. Things start out slow, but the game quickly increases in speed.
Tap the start button to begin tapping on the discs. It’s not essential to wait for the discs to arrive to the white space; players can tap on them as soon as they appear on the screen. While the discs start out slow, things quickly pick up. Discs that are about to go to the wrong home color will cause a warning message. It’s essential to prevent the disc from going to the wrong color or it's Game Over.
The score is displayed in the center of the screen, and players are awarded points for each disc that they capture. Once the game is over, the final score is presented at the end. Those who wish to beat their score will find themselves playing the game over and over again since each session doesn’t take longer than just a few minutes, but they may also find themselves getting burned-out quickly for a few reasons. Firstly, the title screen shows that Game Center is incorporated, but there were no leaderboards or challenges upon tapping the icon. Furthermore, Returno could use additional features for those who may grow tired of it quickly; such as levels to advance through, power-ups to earn, and different game modes.
Returno doesn’t offer a whole lot, but that seems to be the objective. It’s simple and can be played virtually anywhere at anytime thanks to its short sessions. Anyone who loves a good reflex game should check it, but this one may not last on the home screen for long if more isn’t brought to the table in a future update.
