PipeLand Roll is a puzzle game where players don’t have to worry about time or leaks as they work hard to rotate and connect the ends of a shuffled pipe system. It may look familiar to some gamers, but there are a few differences worth noting.
One of the key differences is that players are given a top-down prospective instead of looking at pipes head-on. Players can zoom in or scroll through each environment easily to see the pipe pieces. In addition, there aren’t any timers to worry about. Players aren’t penalized for failing to not complete a puzzle in the specified time, but the time is displayed at the end of each level for gamers to try and beat later. Lastly, the flow stops in the last pipe piece until another one is connected through rotation so the liquid does not spill.
PipeLand Roll features a total of 54 challenging levels that are set in 5 different environments: Desert, Arctic, Field, Urban and Research Center. There are power-ups to earn, rewards for perfect solutions and many achievements and leaderboards to conquer.
After playing through one set of levels, the game didn’t feel intimidating. The puzzles are entertaining and not too hard to complete and the graphics look impressive on the retina display. My main quibble is that it just doesn’t stand out enough from what’s already available in the App Store. Sure, it has different levels and a slightly varied game play, but there’s really nothing that makes it so much different from other games similar to it. The addition of more game modes, in-game challenges to complete or even new obstacles could make it be better than the rest. As it stands now, it just doesn't leave a lasting impression.
Overall, PipeLand Roll is a relaxing puzzler that’s both challenging and fun. While it doesn’t bring anything revolutionary to the world of pipe games, it still has enough enjoyable content for those who love this genre. Whether gamers need a new pipe puzzler or just want a game they can play during commercial breaks, PipeLand Roll is worth considering adding to the collection.
